A woman was shopping for work supplies at a store when an unexpected incident occurred during checkout. Suddenly, loud yelling and disruptive noises erupted from another area of the store. A store clerk approached the cashier assisting the woman and stated that the police needed to be called because a man in the store was becoming increasingly aggressive and out of control.
Feeling prompted by the Holy Spirit, the woman immediately responded and offered to intervene. Although she was carrying numerous shopping bags, she handed them to the cashier and asked to be directed to the man. The cashier appeared doubtful and questioned whether the woman was certain she wanted to get involved; however, she confidently affirmed her decision.
When the woman approached the situation, the store was crowded, and the man was visibly distressed and behaving erratically. She instructed the clerk to remove the other customers from the area to help create a calmer environment. Speaking gently to the man, she reassured him that she was there to help, acknowledged that he appeared frightened, and assured him that the crowd would leave him alone.
As she continued interacting with him, she sensed that the man might be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). She asked whether he was a veteran of the Vietnam War, and he confirmed that he was. The woman then expressed remorse on behalf of the American people for the mistreatment many veterans experienced upon returning home and for the lack of recognition given to their sacrifices. Upon hearing this, the man became emotional and began crying.
After calming him down, the woman accompanied the man outside the store. They walked to a nearby McDonald’s restaurant, where she purchased coffee and food for him. During their conversation, she shared her belief that Buddhist monks had spoken curses over American servicemen during the Vietnam War, specifically that they would remain angry, lack peace, and wander mentally and physically throughout their lives. The man became deeply emotional and stated that the description accurately reflected his life experience.
Together, they prayed and renounced the curses. The man forgave the individuals involved, released them to God, and prayed blessings over them. According to the woman, he immediately sensed a significant internal change. During that encounter, he also accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior before eventually continuing on his way.
Following the interaction, the woman returned to the store, collected her belongings, and proceeded to work. Although she arrived approximately 45 minutes late, no one appeared to notice. She later reflected that such an occurrence was unusual given the strict scheduling demands associated with working in the medical field and believed that God had intervened on her behalf.
Approximately two to three weeks later, she encountered the same man again in the parking lot of the same store. As she entered her vehicle, she heard someone calling out to her. Turning around, she recognized the man immediately; however, his demeanor and appearance had noticeably changed, and he no longer appeared intimidating or distressed.
The man shared that the night she prayed for him was the first full night of uninterrupted sleep he had experienced in nearly 30 years. He explained that his life had changed dramatically since their encounter and repeatedly expressed gratitude, thanking her and blessing her. As a gesture of appreciation, he removed a worn dollar bill from his shoe and offered it to her. She felt honored by the gesture, believed she was meant to accept it, and kept the dollar bill for a long period of time as a meaningful reminder of the experience.
