Finding Forgiveness in Jesus

July 10, 2017
A young man in prison, battling suicide, regret, and pain was set free, encountering forgiveness and the radical love of God, and reunited in heart with his mother.

I had the privilege of leading a team to another state for outreach. While we were in a very remote village, I was presented with the opportunity to go to a super tiny prison to share the gospel with a young man who was battling suicide, regret, and so much more. Along with my contact, I walked into the prison, met the guy, and jumped right into sharing the gospel with him. At first, he seemed taken aback by the idea that Jesus could wash away all the sins that he had ever committed and start fresh. But the more we explained, the more life began to enter into his heart. I simply shared the story of the prodigal son found in Luke 15. As I was telling the parable, tears began to fill his eyes as he realized that as the father was to the son, Jesus was to him. I then began to prophesy about his children, explaining that his children would no longer see the man they used to see because the Bible says, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold the new has come" (2 Corinthians 5:17). When I had spoken these words, the man began to weep. He simply said, "I want this Jesus." We then prayed with him and rejoiced all at the same time! After he had received Jesus, he began to call everyone he could think of to ask for forgiveness. As soon as he was doing so, his mom walked into the room. He got up and gave her a big hug saying he was sorry for everything. They both embraced with tears filling their eyes and joy resurrecting in their hearts. It was one of the most beautiful pictures of restoration I have ever witnessed!
