What was the nature of Bethel’s relationship with Shawn Bolz, and when did that position change?

Shawn Bolz was not and has never been a staff member at Bethel Church, but was a guest speaker at various gatherings and events until 2019. Shawn has his own ministry and board to which he is accountable, and was not formally under the covering of Bethel Church or its leadership team. In 2019, when confronted multiple times with concerning allegations of harassing behavior and a lack of prophetic integrity, we decided to remove him from our platforms, take down his resources from our store, remove his sermons from our network, and to communicate to ministry friends that we knew had him on their platforms as well.

Shawn Bolz

Shawn Bolz was a trusted guest minister who frequently spoke on our platform and whose products were available in our stores. In 2019, allegations were made about his ministry practices, inappropriate behavior, and creating an unacceptable work environment. At that time, Bethel chose to stop platforming his ministry. Bethel has since faced criticism and taken accountability for not being more public about the situation sooner.

Safe Church

Bethel Church’s Community Guidelines and Safe Church process exist to continue the work of revival through supporting physical, emotional, and spiritual health within the Bethel community, and to provide a safe place if an unhealthy or unacceptable interaction or experience should take place.
