My mother had a stroke in December of 2014 and was told she would likely never get back even 50% of her function. We told the doctors that God would restore her to 100% because He is a 100% kind of God. Mom's progress is nothing short of miraculous, but she has worked hard and there have not been many miracles along the way. She is walking, talking, and using her right arm, all of which they implied would never happen. Although her speech was clear, Mom struggled to find words and spoke very haltingly. She became shy and would clam up rather than appear inadequate. On Sunday, August 14th, when Kris Vallotton had a word about the synapses of the brain being restored, and neuropathways becoming clear, we looked at each other, and she said, "That's my word." She claimed it and received it, and we didn't think much about it. A few days later, Mom launched into a story, no halting or hesitating. I thought it was amazing, and then my daughter who was with us and said, "Gramma, I haven't heard you tell a story like that since before the stroke." It was like her speech went back to pre-stroke. Since then, she has spoken out (where she would normally defer to me) and advocated for herself. The neuropathways to her speech are clear and working!
