Answered Questions

As we engage in conversation and review feedback, many questions have arisen for leadership on this topic. Here are the questions and answers that we've currently published.

What is the timeline of the investigation?

In order to ensure that the third-party investigation takes place in full, we do not have a time limit on how long the investigation will take.

Who is the third-party investigator and why were they selected?

Sintra Group Investigations is an organization with over 20 years of experience in investigative work, and they are leading the independent investigation into specific allegations. They were selected because they have relevant qualifications and experience to lead the investigation.

Organizational Health

We have engaged in ongoing conversations with our community—including those impacted by recent events, current and former students, staff, and trusted outside voices. We are establishing clear accountability structures that prioritize integrity and the safety of everyone engaging with Bethel, both inside and outside the organization. We seek to uphold the standards Scripture sets for our leadership and culture. As a result, we're committed to a continued journey of sober reflection and concrete action.

Shawn Bolz

Shawn Bolz was a trusted guest minister who frequently spoke on our platform and whose products were available in our stores. In 2019, allegations were made about his ministry practices, inappropriate behavior, and creating an unacceptable work environment. At that time, Bethel chose to stop platforming his ministry. Bethel has since faced criticism and taken accountability for not being more public about the situation sooner.

Bob Hartley

Bob Hartley was a previously platformed minister who visited and ministered within the Bethel environment. As of 2024, his platform and his ability to engage with our environment has been restricted.

Safe Church

Bethel Church’s Community Guidelines and Safe Church process exist to continue the work of revival through supporting physical, emotional, and spiritual health within the Bethel community, and to provide a safe place if an unhealthy or unacceptable interaction or experience should take place.
