Obituary

Brenda “Beni” Sue Johnson — August 27, 1954 - July 13, 2022

Born: August 27, 1954, in Redding, California

Died: July 13, 2022 in Redding, California, in her home

After fighting cancer fiercely for the last year, Beni left for heaven with over 30 family members by her side, who had 100% contended and believed for a miracle to the last breath because God is a God of miracles. That moment was then turned to giving thanks and praise to Jesus for the eternal hope of heaven, where Beni is now completely healthy and free, face to face with Jesus, whom she loved with everything within her. At her passing, her family committed themselves to continue the good fight of letting the world know who Jesus is and that God is good. They are fully trusting God in the mystery of the things that are not yet understood, and as Beni would often say, “Take a big breath, and just trust God.”

Beni married Bill Johnson on April 14, 1973. Beni and her husband Bill pastored Mountain Chapel in Weaverville, California, from October 1978 to January 1996.

She and Bill then moved to Redding, California, in 1996 to pastor Bethel Church. Beni led the charge in a passionate pursuit of prayer and taught Bethel and the nations how to intercede with joy. She was, and is, a worshipper, a warrior, a fighter, and servant of the Almighty—her work has only just begun. Beni has written several books including The Happy Intercessor, The Joy of Intercession, The Power of Communion, Healthy & Free, and 40 Days to Wholeness. She also co-authored many books.

Beni loved learning and spent much time deeply pursuing the subjects of God and His Word, health, exercise, gardening, and family life. Her favorite pastimes were gardening, soaking in the presence of God with worship music, and watching old sitcoms, mysteries, some older Hallmark movies and even some westerns. While Beni had a quiet demeanor, she was full of spunk and humor. Beni held fast to her convictions, spoke with authority, and was a hero to multitudes.  While Beni traveled the nations of the world, as well as many states in America, both to speak and minister with her husband Bill and on her own, her favorite place in all the world was home with her husband, her family, and her grandchildren. She found her greatest joy in being a wife, a mom, and a grandma.

Beni has been the wife of Bill Johnson for 49 years; they have been best friends for 51 years and will be forever. She is Mom to Eric (Candace) Johnson, Brian (Jenn) Johnson, and Leah (Gabe) Valenzuela and Grandma to her 12 grandchildren: Kennedy and Selah Johnson, Haley (Will) Parker, Téa, Braden, Moses Ryder, and Malachi Johnson, and Judah, Diego, Bella, and Cruz Valenzuela. They are her greatest treasures. She is also missed by her loving parents Gene and Nell Nicolet; her mother-in-love Darliene Johnson; her siblings Daryl (Lin) Nicolet, Darla (David Cassell) Nicolet; and siblings-in-love Jacque Grubbs, Bob Johnson, and Wendi (Greg) Simas; 31 nieces and nephews; so many more extended family members and friends from all over the world; and her beloved Bethel family.

Beni’s life will be celebrated on Friday, August 5, 2022 at 1:00pm at the Redding Civic Auditorium, 700 Auditorium Drive, Redding, CA 96001. Click here to learn more.
