What can I bring to contribute to camp?
- On the first night of camp (Wednesday July 2) we will be doing an all camp Taco Bar Potluck meal together. Everyone is asked to contribute to the potluck to share. We will have a signup list so that you can let us know what you bring and to make sure we have everything covered!
- Lake inflatables and water toys (we are especially looking for some large inflatable water toys for the lake!) If you have one that you are willing to bring, please let us know connect@bethel.com
- Kayak, paddle board, etc. McCumber lake is a great swimming, boating and fishing lake and the camp offers a small selection of canoes and kayaks for anyone to use. You are also welcome to bring your personal kayak or paddleboards.
- Sports equipment. There is a ballfield, and we will opportunities to play softball, kickball, volleyball, soccer, capture the flag, etc. If you enjoy a certain sport, bring your equipment and start up a game!
- Musical Instruments - each day there will be an opportunity for those who love to jam on their instruments together to do so.
I'm single—is Family Camp for me?
Family Camp is for the whole local Bethel Church family, including singles, marrieds, and families!
For our solo campers we want you to know that this is one of the best opportunities to get to know and hang out with other singles and families of all generations. We intentionally provide regular opportunities for you to jump in and feel easily included in activities, meals, and just hanging out. We know that sometimes working out the details of camping as a single can be tricky, so we have a dedicated group section where our singles can camp together, which helps provide a connected and fun experience for our single campers and have also dedicated a cabin per same gender if you prefer that type of camping. Make sure that you mark yourself as a solo camper to be a part of the singles camping group!
What are the camp facilities like?
We have rented out the entire campground for the full week and are excited about having the freedom to create a fully tailored camp experience for our Bethel Family full of optional recreational and group activities each day.
The camp is a nice flat area, with both open fields and many towering pines that you can tuck your tent sites into. Great trees for sleeping in hammocks. A lake that borders one side of the camp. Temperatures are typically 12-15 degrees cooler in the higher elevation than Redding. The evenings can get cool and we recommend bringing layers for the evenings and making sure you have a warm sleeping bag/blankets for overnight.

Daytime highs are typically in the mid to high 80’s. Nighttime lows are in the low 60’s but can drop into the high 50’s. For current, up-to-date weather, the zip code is 96088.
Because the nights can get cool, warm clothes and a jacket, as well as warm sleeping bags or blankets for bedding, are recommended.
Is there running water and electricity?
Yes! There is running water in the bathrooms and communal water faucets, and yes, there is electricity in each cabin, all of the communal buildings, the bathrooms, and the pavillion.
What will cooking be like?
If you are tent camping and will not be doing the meal plan here are a couple of things to know. Tent sites are dry. There are no water hookups at your sites. There are multiple water access points throughout the camp that you can access potable water (the water at McCumber is so good that they have had multiple water companies offer to purchase for the water rights) Tent campers must bring their own camp stove or grill or share one with a friend/neighbor. Open fires are not allowed. There is also the option to bring a crockpot and hook up at one of the electric outlets in the rec room or pavilion. Also at the pavilion is a large grill that multiple people can use at the same time. There are 3 outdoor sinks where dishes can be washed up at, but bringing throw away plates/utensils is highly recommended.
Where is the nearest grocery store?
There is a grocery store and a Dollar General just 10 minutes from the camp.
How will we be celebrating on July 4th?
We will be staying in a National Forest where fireworks are not allowed which means we will not be doing fireworks at camp or the lake. We have plans for a great 4th of July Celebration together that will include lots of fun for everyone. However, if you really need the full fireworks display, you are welcome to drive back to Redding that evening and enjoy the festivities there.
Can I bring my dog?
We are still working this out with the camp and waiting for their final decision. In the past a small number of dogs have been welcome at Family Camp mostly for those who were camping in an RV. At this point no pets are allowed to come to family camp this year.
What should I bring?
We have created a list of packing recommendations for you! You can find the list here.
