Since 1987, Betty Lou and Al Bennett served with Mercy Ships. Al passed away August 2022, and Betty Lou continues the work they began.
In January of 1987, Al retired from business and they attended a Discipleship Training School with Youth With A Mission (YWAM), in Tyler, Texas. Since then, they served as Captain and Chief Steward on one of their ships, Good Samaritan. They sailed in various positions, our other ships: Anastasis, Africa Mercy, and Caribbean Mercy. They worked in other departments with Mercy Ships once Al's years as Captain ended. They worked with major donor giving, with market place giving, and have shared Mercy Ships story with thousands. As a semi-retiree, Betty Lou now works in the Staff Development. Her favorite position is helping to staff Gateway, an entry level program for all new staff and crew. She also feels called to pray for those who serve on the front lines in missions.
